News to Go: Afternoon Update

Tehran says YES to transferring nuclear technology to other Islamic nations that are in need of alternate energy sources much to the chagrin of the Bush Administration and European allies.

Bush's popularity drops. What he needs is country to bomb, that is the Bush Administration policy for dealing with everything. That or WE NEED A TAX CUT. Maybe Iran or China or North Korea is tunneling to the center of the Earth which is knocking the planet off its axis and indirectly led to the hurricane?

I am surprised there is no TERROR ALERT. Bush and his buds usually will put out a press release at around this time.

It looks quiet in Iraq, but its far from it. US soldier deaths are down while Iraqi blood is flowing like beer from a spigot now. Check out this story about 31 deaths today and of course the 12, thats right 12 SUICIDE CAR BOMBINGS yesterday. But like FOX NEWS says, "how come we never hear about the cars that don't blow up". They also feel that we never talk about good weather, just when hurricanes happen.

Google is pushing into BroadBand. They are the new DarkLords of the net.

Gillete's new 5 Blade Razor, I'm holding out for 10.

Read this and understand that we pay 1000's for chips that cost $40 to make. I guess thats how R&D costs are recouped. Those 2 billion dollar fabs don't just sprout from the Good Earth.

Digital Rights Management or DRM rears its ugly head. TIVO may be implementing it in version 7.2 of its OS. The change may give broadcasters the ability to prevent viewers from recording and saving a show past a certain date. If they do this TIVO as a company will likely soon be history. The story likely is an aberration but caution is in order, DRM is a nightmare.

Patrick Norton's Digital Life TV is really cool. He was part of the old Screensavers crew. He also works with Leo Laporte on This Week In Tech or TWiT. Digital Life TV has its 5th episode on LIVE today at 9PM Eastern.

L'etoile Restaurant

Tried this restaurant in C'ville recently. Here is the website.

Went ther for dinner. The restaurant is right near the train tracks so if you sit outside be prepared for a bit of a noise every so often as a freight train makes its way down the track. The service is actually pretty good. We were greeted pretty quickly and we came in before 6:00 PM so seating was not an issue. The restaurant is located near Continental Divide (more on this C'ville restaurant next week) on the way to the Downtown Mall.

The menu on the website is not up to date (I don't know if they update the site). I had a salad that was made with greens and Mozarrela in a Balsamic vinegar dressing. It was actually pretty good. We also tried the grilled shrimp. For a main course I tried the crusted catfish (thats not on the website) which was a OK. I was expecting a sauce of some type with it (you know French restaurant....). The desert was good. They recently added a chocolate cake that is warm and a bit gooey which was really good. I had to fight over desert with my wife. It was overall an excellent meal.

Expect dinner for two to run $80-120 with drinks (2 Glasses of Wine).

Hollymead Town Center

I found these plans on the internet. Looks like there is tons of space still left to be sold.

Interesting Charlottesville Demographics for the center.

I don't know who this guy is but the story is pretty interesting.

John Roberts is dodging questions like an olympic skier going through the gates. I like this guy. Looks like Roe V. Wade may be going bye bye.

I can't believe that Sun thought about running these ads but they are on the Sun site. Looks like an internal URL that the outside was not supposed to see.

This site is awesome. It allows you to text message a Caller ID.

Maybe JetBlue will come to Charlottesville with these planes. They are planning jet service to small airports.

Bush looks to be in a weak position politically, he even has started to cave in on the Iran nuclear question.

Dvorak is one of my favorite tech writers. He writes a real funny piece on Windows and Microsoft's plan to release 7 versions of Windows Vista.
